From the President

At the recent Annual General Meeting, our President, Hamish McAndie, and Committee Member, Liam Schiller, stepped down.  On behalf of the new Committee, I’d like to thank them for the work they have done during their time on the Committee.

Hamish has been instrumental in our move into the new building at Harper’s Field and the establishment of the new Golden Grove Sporting Club constitution.  Liam has been the one organising all of the trophies for the senior end of season presentations.  Of course, both have done much more than that.

The new Committee has been elected and have already started working on everything that needs to be done for the new season.  I have stepped into the role of President (about the only role I haven’t held in my many years at the Club) and will be working closely with the rest of the Committee:

President:  Graeme Lynch
Vice President:  Andrew Hunter
Chairperson:  Ian Henderson
Secretary:  Gavin Lynch
Treasurer:  Chip Jarvis
General Committee (Honour boards):  Ben Whitehead
General Committee (Ground staff/equipment):  Geoff Herbert
General Committee (Trophies):  Sam Johns
General Committee (Bar manager):  Vicki Venning

There are many other positions required to successfully run a cricket club, and I thank the following people:

Senior Coach:  Craig Jones
Senior Cricket Director:  Jack Churchill
Senior Cricket Department:  Ben Whitehead, Craig Jones
Junior Co-ordinator:  Vicki Venning
Senior Player Representative:  Bradley Cousins
Child Safe Officer:  Ben Whitehead

Vicki will need help running the juniors.  If you would like to serve on a Junior Sub-Committee, please contact Vicki (juniors@goldengrovecc.asn.au).  We will announce the Junior coaches and team managers as soon as Vicki has them finalised.

In the meantime, don’t forget to register for the new season.  Seniors and Juniors can do that here:  http://goldengrovecc.asn.au/registration

As always, we are very pleased to have Paula Luethen as our Club Patron.  Not only does Paula run around like a chook with its head cut off to help local sporting clubs, but she is also one of our valued sponsors.  Contact Paula at the Elizabeth branch of People Choice Credit Union to discuss your banking needs.  I have recently completed a home loan application to refinance my current loan, and I can definitely recommend the professional and friendly service that People’s Choice provides.

We are always on the lookout for new sponsors, so if you or someone you know is interested in sponsoring the Brumbies, please have a squiz at our sponsorship packages:  http://www.goldengrovecc.asn.au/pdf/sponsorship_packages.pdf

These are currently being updated, but it will give you an idea of how your business and the Golden Grove Cricket Club can work together.

I look forward to a successful season on and off the field and hope to see all of you at games, training or fundraising events.

Cheers,
Grum

Senior Coach, Captains & Pre-season Training

The Golden Grove Cricket Club Committee is pleased to announce the appointment of Craig Jones as our Senior Coach for the 2024/25 season.

Craig started his coaching career at Brumbies as the inaugural coach of our Under 9 team.  Since then, Craig has coached junior teams to premierships and is a well-liked member of the Brumbies family.  We are excited to see Craig apply his skills to our senior group and his commitment to transitioning players from juniors to seniors.

The Committee is also pleased to announce the re-appointment of Ben Whitehead as our First XI skipper and Liam Henderson as our Second XI captain.  Liam took over the role midway through last season and has impressed all with the way he thinks about the game and leads the team.

We thank our Senior Cricket Department lead by our new Senior Cricket Director, Jack Churchill, for their work in relation to the above appointments.

The captains of the Third XI and Fourth XI will be announced closer to the start of the season.

Senior pre-season starts on Sunday September 1 from 10am to 11am at the Northern Jets Indoor Training facility (located at Salisbury Oval, Memorial Avenue, Salisbury).

Subsequent sessions will be held on:

  • Sunday September 8 from 9am to 10am
  • Sunday September 15 from 10am to 11am
  • Sunday September 22 from 10am to 11am
  • Sunday September 29 from 10am to 11am

All new and existing players welcome.

The Brumbies win the ATCA A3 premiership

The next day, the Brumbies (7/196) chased it down in 66.5 overs thanks, in part, to an opening partnership of 96 between Kallen Pinder (49) and Chris Moran (46).  Matt Herrmann (38*) guided the Brumbies home and brought up the win with six.
